Time Travel
I've probably put way too much thought into the idea of time travel, especially considering it is
more science fiction than science. You can listen to discussions about the possibilities of
time travel and the theoritical reasons why without end. This prompted me to argue
why time travel (into the past) is impossible without trying to argue theoritical physics like
the proponents.
If a time machine capable of traversing the past is created, time becomes infinite. Whether or not
the universe eventually ends, time is infinite because anyone with the harnessed technology could
continue reliving any moments of existence infinite times. When you have an infinite timeline an
interesting thing happens....anything that can happen WILL happen. The probability of anything that
is possible of actually happening approaches 1. Therefore, the possibility that someone travels to
this year, or any prior year and is discovered is 1. Also, with an infinite timeline, time travel
if ever possible has been possible for an infinite time already. We have never discovered such events
so therefore the events will never happen.
Avoiding purely logical explanations, time travel into the past is physically impossible.
Some physicists love to play with the idea that it may be possible. Others avoid the topic either way
it is impossible whether you consider fairy tale ideas such as wormholes, singularities connecting different
universes, or rapidly rotating cylinders (or any shapped mass).
Time travel into the past is impossible because it directly disobeys several laws of nature.
Matter can neither be created or destroyed.
1st law of thermodynamics.
If traveling to a prior time were capable than matter is being created. Why? Traveling into the past
basically equates to arriving prior to leaving. Especially when speaking of using a wormhole or singularity
as the mechanic of travel. Well, if you arrive before leaving than the paradox of duplicating yourself
occurs which obviously means you have created matter.
Conservation of energy. Similarly to the conservation of matter....if it isn't matter that is being created
than the energy that is contained within you is taken from state B of the universe and injected into state A
of the universe thereby adding energy to the closed system. Which equates to basically transferring energy
from the future into the past. So basically, the injection of extra energy or matter or both from a
future state of the universe into a prior state directly violates fundamental laws of physics and nature.
